FG can't meet asuu demands -okonjo iweala. Hopes of quick resolution of the present face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities were dashed on Tuesday as the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the government has no resources to meet the union demands. Foreclosing possible truce to the five-week old industrial action that has paralysed academic activities in the nation’s ivory towers, Okonjo-Iwela said the striking university lecturers were asking for #92 billion in extra allowances, maintaining that government lack means of picking the bill.Speaking in Minna at the annual National Council on Finance and Economic Development meeting, the minister said that ASUU demand was coming at a time government was making efforts at reducing the structure of public expenditures.The theme of the meeting is:“Restructuring Nigeria’s Finances.”She said, “At present ASUU wants the government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances when resources are not there and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions.We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work.”

A lot has been said about the alleged involvement of divorced actress, Fathia Balogun, in the issues that led to the crashed of actress Moji Olaiya's marriage. I am also in Nowhere to be Found, which is another popular soap.We learnt that you played the role of an illiterate woman in Glass HouseYes, and it was very challenging. I got married to a bank chairman in the series and I am also a publisher. I played 'Moji' even in the series. The character is just a very funny person. I must tell you the soap is very interesting. I am very happy I played that part.You have not produced any movie in recent timesThe last movie I produced was last year and it even won an award. It was premiered in Canada at the Toronto film festivals. The market is not really encouraging now. That is why most producers are really calming down to see the outcome of this piracy issue. That is why most people are not doing movies now.Are you saying you didn't make enough from your last movie?We didn't make what we expected because of piracy. However, the movie sold. It won the best movie award at last year's Yoruba Movies Academy Awards. It was also screened at the Africa Movies Academy Awards.But it wasn't nominated in any category.I don't know what happened. As far as I know, it was well shot. It had good picture quality.Will you say your father's name has opened a lot of doors for you?I'll say yes. Let's take for instance my state, Ekiti State. Most things they call my father to do, because he is old and cannot be travelling up and down, they call me to do them. I even remember the first time I went to the German Embassy for a visa. Getting the visa was very quick because the lady that attended to me knew who my father was. I got the visa. I am proud to be associated with him as somebody I can call my father. There are so many legends out there, yet their children are not proud of them.

Over 4000 volts entered Champion's body and instantly stopped his heart (an electric chair uses about 2000 volts).His safety harness prevented a fall, and Thompson, who had been ascending below him, quickly reached him and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He was unable to perform CPR given the circumstances, but continued breathing into Champion's lungs until he felt a slight pulse, then unbuckled his harness and descended with him on his shoulder.Thompson and another worker administered CPR on the ground, and Champion was moderately revived by the time paramedics arrived.

A producer and brand ambassador, he talks about his job, his 10-year-old marriage and other sundry issuesHow challenging is the job of producing Hausa movies?Most times, challenges come up when you don't do your homework the way it should be done. I don't produce more than one or two movies a year and I do a lot of pre-production planning before going on set. That removes all the challenges. It seems just a handful of producers are from the northYes. There are just a couple of us. The reason could be cultural barriers; people seem to be just contented with what they do and they don't want to branch out into wider areas.How did you break into the English movie sector?When I first started appearing in the English movies, the challenge I had was the perception of my people. Most people misunderstood what I was trying to do. But with time, when the movies started coming out, they became acquainted with what I was trying to do.At 39 you have already been married for 10 years, why did you have to marry so early?I was fortunate to meet a wonderful lady when I was 29. I now sympathise with them and I understand their situation.You spent almost two years on that project, was the price worth it?It was worth it.How much were you paid?In movies we don't discuss our fees.You were quoted as saying Omotola is your most favourite colleague, if circumstances were different, would you have married her?I was pretty young when I first saw Omotola in 'Thorns of Roses' and liked her performance. After that, when I saw her in 'Mortal Inheritance,' I fell in love with her as a person because she gave a perfect interpretation to the character. Of course, if we were both single, I would have proposed to her.How many phone calls do you receive from fans in one day?I cannot count them.Are they up to 1000?They could even be more than 1000, sometimes. The phone keeps ringing and I don't want to change my number because it is my contact point. But if I leave it open all the time, the calls could be very distracting. For instance, someone calls and says, 'I just want to say hello to you.' Then another person calls and says, 'I just want to say hello to you.' Sometimes, I need to work and also spend time with my family. I cannot concentrate and I had no choice than to install a blocker on my phone.How does it feel to be an ambassador to two huge brands?They are very caring brands and they deliver when it comes to paying the model.What determines the way you dress?I don't have a particular mood or pattern of dressing but I have designers that make clothes for me. One is based in Lagos and he provides clothes for me when I am in the South. A 40-year-old farmer, Biodun Akapo, a resident of Afojupa Village,a suburb of Owode-Egba Town of Ogun State, is on the run because his wife bore triplets.The mother delivered the babies on July 24 at Ore-Ofe Maternity Home in the town. She was only able to pay the hospital bill with the intervention of the traditional ruler of the town, Kolawole Sowemimo.The father of the babies, who was not available as at the time of the delivery, absconded when news filtered to him about the delivery. He is yet to appear as at the time of this report.
